Oklahoma Passes Senior Crossbow Legislation
2008-06-13
This fall those 60 years old and older may hunt with a crossbow during archery season in Oklahoma without obtaining a special permit. House Bill 2226, sponsored by Glen bud Smithson, set the senior age at 55 and the house passed the bill unanimously, 91-0 and sent it to the senate. In the senate the bill was amended changing the age to 60 and older. The bill was then sent back to the house to concur which it did (93-1), and the bill was signed into law by the governor.
Beginning this October for the first time hunters 60 and older will be permitted to hunt in archery season with a crossbow. These seniors will not have to go through visits to a doctor and filing for a special physically impaired permit. For complete details on the Okalahoma archery season visit www.wildlifedepartment.com. For whatever reason the wildlife agency does not list the new change in the “news” section of their website, but all the regulations, seasons and license fees are listed.
